About role-based addresses

Contrary to personal email addresses which are associated with a particular person, so-called “role-based” email addresses (like admin@, support@, contact@) are usually generic email addresses of a company, department, or position. Most of the time, they include a distribution list of several recipients and are not intended for personal use.

Role addresses are complicated to handle in email marketing for several reasons:

• They are more likely to cause spam complaints and blacklisting, thus affecting your deliverability in a negative way.
• They are likely to fall out of use, and the engagement the people is low.
• It is impossible to prove that every single recipient of a role-based address has given his/her consent to receive your campaign
• “Spam traps” generally identify that sending bulk email to role-based addresses should be considered spam because they were obtained without permission of the holder (these addresses are usually disclosed in corporate websites and therefore very easy to get….)

Since quality mailing lists are the key to success of any email campaign, Acrelia News prevents you from including role-based addresses when adding contacts by “bulk” import with the importation tool.

However, you are able to add role-based manually, on a one-by-one basis, if you feel that one role-based address do need to be part of your mailing list. You are requested to make responsible use of this option.

For security reasons, Acrelia does not disclose the list of role-based addresses that build our master suppression list for role-based addresses. We make sure to review prefixes frequently in order to guarantee the highest delivery ratio in your sendings.
